Things to Do in Bayside Miami: Waterfront Walks, Boats & Views

Plan a Bayside Miami visit with six waterfront activities, boat-tour comparisons, a half-day route, Metromover advice and weather tips.
For a first visit, pair a walk around Bayside Marketplace with one optional paid attraction, then leave time for food and neighboring Bayfront Park. Allow roughly two hours for browsing and a meal, or three to four hours if you add a sightseeing cruise.
Bayside Marketplace is at 401 Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami, on the bay—not in Miami Beach. It combines shops, dining and waterfront attractions in one compact stop. Bayside’s visitor guide has directions and opening hours.
1. Browse the shops and watch the waterfront
Start with an unhurried circuit of the marketplace before committing to a ticket. The waterfront is the main reason to linger; shopping can be a short diversion rather than the whole outing.
The official directory lists familiar retailers including Sunglass Hut, Bath and Body Works, Build-A-Bear and IT’SUGAR. This is a practical stop for souvenirs, sweets or a family shopping break, rather than a dedicated neighborhood-boutique itinerary. Browse Bayside’s shops.
Suggested time: 30–45 minutes, longer if you want to shop.
2. Ride the Skyviews Miami observation wheel
Choose Skyviews if you want elevated bay and skyline views without spending much of the afternoon on a boat. The operator says the ride lasts approximately 12–15 minutes, and the gondolas are climate-controlled. Allow additional time for tickets and boarding. Skyviews FAQs.
Late afternoon works well if you want to combine the ride with an evening meal; after dark is another option for city lights. Neither requires building an entire day around the attraction.
For wheelchair users, Skyviews lists an accessible loading platform and gondolas, but says powered-wheelchair users must transfer to a non-powered wheelchair, which it can provide. Check that arrangement before buying if a transfer would be difficult. The wheel can also close in severe weather despite operating in ordinary rain. Accessibility and weather policies.
3. Take a relaxed Biscayne Bay sightseeing cruise
A narrated cruise is the better choice if you want the waterfront outing itself to be the main event.
Island Queen’s 90-minute Millionaire’s Row sightseeing cruise departs from Bayside and offers views of the Downtown skyline, PortMiami, Fisher Island, Miami Beach and waterfront homes. Its vessels have an air-conditioned lower salon and an open-air upper deck with an awning. Island Queen tour details.
As of October 24, 2026, the operator advertises tickets at $35 for adults, $25 for ages 4–12 and $5 for children 3 and under. Confirm the checkout total and your date’s departures before purchasing; the schedule changes seasonally.
The important planning detail: exchange your voucher at a ticket booth at least 45 minutes before departure. That makes this more than a 90-minute commitment. Tickets are listed as transferable but non-refundable, with no refund for missing the reservation. Prices, check-in and ticket terms.

4. Choose Thriller Miami for a faster boat outing
Thriller is the alternative for travelers who want speed rather than a leisurely sightseeing deck. Bayside lists its public speedboat tour as 45 minutes; the operator requires arrival 30 minutes before departure. Bayside attractions and Thriller’s FAQs.
This is not an interchangeable substitute for the gentler cruise:
- Children must be at least 3 years old and 36 inches tall.
- Pregnant passengers cannot participate.
- The operator advises guests with back, neck or mobility problems not to choose the speedboat tour.
- Spray can enter the boat, particularly toward the back.
Sea conditions affect the route and speed. Thriller says it cancels for thunder and lightning, with rescheduling or a full refund; third-party purchases must be handled through the seller. Thriller’s passenger and cancellation policies.
5. Stay for food and waterfront music
Use the meal stop to slow the pace rather than squeezing it between ticketed activities. Bayside’s dining listings include Ben’s Pizza, Skoops, Black Market Miami, Kuba Cabana and Pier 5. Check menus before choosing; convenience and setting need not mean every restaurant fits your budget. Bayside dining listings.
For music, Pier 5 is a specific option inside the marketplace. It describes daily live music and rotating DJs, plus shaded waterfront seating and deck games. The venue says daytime visits welcome all ages, while evenings become more nightlife-focused. Check its programming for your date rather than expecting a particular band. Pier 5 entertainment.
6. Add neighboring Bayfront Park
Bayfront Park is the nearby extension, not another attraction inside the marketplace. At 301 Biscayne Boulevard, it offers waterfront paths, open lawns, public art and a playground. General park admission is free, and published hours are 7 a.m.–11 p.m. daily. Bayfront Park facilities and park admission and hours.
Allow 30–45 minutes for a walk. Families can swap extra shopping for playground time; travelers keeping spending down can make the park and marketplace stroll the outing, without a boat or wheel ticket.
A simple half-day plan
With a cruise: Arrive at Bayside, exchange your voucher at least 45 minutes before departure, browse nearby while waiting, take the 90-minute cruise, then have a meal. Add Bayfront Park only if energy and weather allow.
Without a cruise: Walk Bayfront Park, browse Bayside, ride Skyviews if interested, then settle in for food or music. A late-afternoon start avoids putting the whole walk in midday heat.
For a longer outing, use our Downtown Miami day plans to add a separate stop rather than stacking several similar waterfront tickets.
Getting there, hours and weather
Without a car: Bayside recommends Metrorail to Government Center, then the Metromover Inner Loop to College/Bayside, followed by a walk east. Bayside rail directions. Metromover is free, but upgrade work can affect service. Check Miami-Dade’s upgrade advisories before leaving. For October 24, 2026, the county posted a systemwide closure until 2 p.m.
Driving: Paid parking is available, but Bayside warns that event rates can vary. If you already have a walkable Downtown base, there is little reason to drive solely for this stop. Parking information.
Marketplace hours, checked October 24, 2026: Monday–Thursday 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; Friday–Saturday 10 a.m.–11 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Individual restaurants, shops and attractions keep separate hours. Official opening hours.
Bring water and sun protection, and keep the outdoor portions flexible. If you hear thunder, move into a substantial enclosed building with electricity or plumbing, or an enclosed metal-topped vehicle with the windows up—not an open-sided shelter. Wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder before returning outdoors. NOAA lightning guidance. A covered deck or climate-controlled gondola is not a reason to keep an outdoor itinerary during a storm.
